Hey friends. In case you’re wondering, we’re still a band! Three new shows have just been added to the gig guide, the first of which is less than 4 weeks away.
On March 3rd we’re supporting the wonderful Little Two Eyes for their EP Launch. This will be a reunion of sorts, as Flik and I used to play in a band called Illicit Eve with Emily and Hamish of Little Two Eyes. We’re super excited to be sharing the stage with these guys again, so I really hope you can come along and support our first show in over 4 months! It all happens at the Grand Academy of Lagado, a specially made Adelaide Fringe venue. We will be PRESELLING tickets to this show, and the venue isn’t huge, so make sure you get yours early to not miss out. When tickets are available to purchase we’ll let you know.
CD copies of our latest EP, ‘Sturt Desert Peach’, will be available to buy on the night! You can also listen/buy our music online HERE.
In other news, I will be releasing my full length solo album on March 1st. Titled ‘The Surrealist’, it will be available in digital and mp3, form on my bandcamp, as well as a vinyl version within a few months. I wrote this record while travelling overseas last year and it’s a bit of documentary of my trip, inspired by the places I visited and people who impacted my life. If you’re interested please keep your eyes on the site or this blog.
Thanks for your continued support. We’ve had numerous requests of more live shows, and hopefully the next few will further whet your whale of an appetite for music. YEAH!

TVW’s own Cam and Nick are scoring and performing live the music for this new theatre production, showing for two weeks in Adelaide’s Bakehouse Theatre.
“There’s a woman strapped up in a chair over there. Will you use a saw or cleaver? It might feel morally wrong, but it looks like you have to hack her head clean from her body. Don’t worry about the key. Try not to look at the Dark Man. Don’t read the itinerary. Just slice, and dice.”
Slicing and Dicing!!!! is a blood soaked, brain spattered, tragic-comic farce of epic proportions about slavery, oppression, rebellion and great vegetarian lasagna.
Imagine Tarantino’s nightmare of Lynch and Artaud’s love child’s reality-torture-porn series and you’re a third of the way there. Add boobs, balls, prog-rock, cleavers, hacksaws, brawn, spattered brains, severed limbs and bathtubs of blood and you have
SLICING AND DICING!!!!
And guess what…..YOU’RE WATCHING THIS.
Written by award nominated local playwright Alan Grace, directed by theatrical legend Peter Dunn, SLICING and DICING!!! is not to be missed. It boasts a huge cast of local talent: Wayne Anthoney, Laura Brenko, Amy Brooks, Sam Calleja, Peter Cortissos, Dee Easton, Elliot Howard, Nic Krieg, Sara Lange, Eddie Morrison, Nathan Porteus, and Eugene Suleau.
Music by Nick Russell and Cameron Sanderson, of The Venice Whalers.

A few of you have probably already read the details from the economic report that found more Victorians attended gigs last year than AFL matches. If not, check out a summary here. It also mentions how live music contributes over $500 million each year to Victoria’s economy and there are over 600 music venues throughout Victoria, over half of them in Melbourne alone.
This is a huge deal. Music isn’t, by most standards, considered to be a necessary part of the fabric of Australian life, or most English speaking countries, really. After travelling through Latin America this year you realise music plays a much different and more important role in the lives of the people there. Over here it’s treated more as a luxury item. Over there it’s as crucial as food, water or sex. The one thing that convinces the government of this country that something is worth throwing money at is that it’s ‘good for the economy’. Being able to justify the music industry as contributing to Australia’s economic climate is really useful to everyone earning a living in this difficult industry. Let’s hope this spurs the government into supporting the live music venues rather than treating them the same as the nightclubs and bars that cause problems when liquor licensing laws are broken. This could even help reinstate funding into music education programs that have been (and continue to be) axed across the board. This includes the Musicians in Schools program run by Music SA that I used to work for and the Commercial Music TAFE courses in Adelaide that are so close to being completely shut down.
This is obviously just in Victoria, but apparently nation-wide data will be released soon. Hopefully that report will be as positive as this. And just remember next time you’re weighing up whether to go to a local gig – just your presence can make the difference, whether you buy a CD, T-shirt, beer or nothing, just go to the gig!
